Bradford’s youth strike for climate change

At 11am on Friday 15th March, hundreds of Bradford's young people will walk out of class and gather on the steps of City Hall to demand politicians take urgent action to stop climate change.

This week's action is led by young people in Bradford following their involvement in the first coordinated strike in the UK on Friday 15th February. As the movement grows more young people from Bradford are taking a stand and raising their voices.

Daniel, 11, said “I am going to strike because I want the world leaders to take action on climate change. It’ll affect children more than adults because we will live with it for longer. I told my head teacher I am going to strike and she said ‘You should do it. It’ll do the planet good.’ After we’ve been on strike we hope to do an assembly about it and make changes in school.”

Zufashan,11, said “I am striking because world leaders need to take action on climate change. In twelve years our damage will be irreversible, so, it is now or never. I have spoken to my head teacher and she said, "I think that's a great idea do it for the good of the planet and humanity".I am striking to raise awareness on climate change.”

Courtney, 9, said “Help us save our planet. Soon all the earth will be covered in 20cm full of water! Are you gonna stop global warming or keep this going? Make the right choice, this is NOT the earth we want to live on. Act now or swim later”

The school strike movement started in August when Greta Thunberg, then 15, held a solo protest outside the Swedish parliament. Now, up to 70,000 schoolchildren each week hold protests in 270 towns and cities worldwide.
