Would you like to maximise the value of your Teaching Assistants?

What is MPTA?

MPTA is licensed training developed as part of a project funded by the Education Endowment Foundation to help schools transform the way they use teaching assistants, with the aim of increasing their positive impact on pupils’ progress and attainment.

What is the impact?

Through MPTA training, schools report that making TA deployment a focus of attention has raised their TAs’ profile and lifted their confidence and sense of value.   They have seen more effective classroom   partnerships with changes to  interactions consistent with one of the training aims of moving TAs’ talk from task completion to developing pupils’ independence.

Feedback from Teachers and TAs

Shirley Manor School  are the first school to complete and embed MPTA.  Both the Head and staff feel it has had a fantastic impact on the children and the school as a whole:

“I can see a big difference in staff attitude as well as the children’s.”

“TAs are more confident about moving learning on.”

“It has made my role more challenging and I am very pleased with my results.”

“Gives me good strategies to use to help children become more independent.”

“Many children (especially those who have been over-reliant on TAs historically) are becoming more independent.”

“TA confidence has improved, teachers feel more able to give tasks/ask for input.”

“I feel it has had a positive impact in school, giving purpose and clear guidelines as to TA’s roles.”

What does it entail?

A reflection of current TA practice followed by bespoke short sessions for the school culminating in a day and half of training for TAs and teachers. As part of the package , each school receives  comprehensive high-quality resources to support the training.
