COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course will provide an introduction to autism and some practical tools and strategies to meet communication and interaction needs. Delegates will gain knowledge and awareness of classroom practice designed to engage autistic students in the curriculum and provide support for their social and emotional needs. The course includes definitions and characteristics of autism along with some practical observations in classrooms at Delius Special School of strategies used. Teachers and support assistants will undertake action planning for students in their own classrooms as part of joint professional discussions.
