Why not take part in a Secondary Mathematics professional development Work Group project run by your local Maths Hub in 2019? I wanted to highlight a few of projects that you may find of interest. All these projects are completely FREE - funded by the
DfE to promote maths development - and have been designed to help teaching of the subject, regardless of where you are on your journey.
·A Level Teaching Subject Knowledge - this local 4 day course is ideal for any teacher who is teaching A-level maths this year. Teachers will go through key topics of A-level maths at look at the most effective ways of teaching
·GCSE Mathematical Thinking – now in its third year, this project looks to support teachers with teaching reasoning and problem solving at GCSE. So if this is something you are looking to develop, then then this Work Group is for
·Year 5 – 8 continuity project – this is one of the maths hubs most popular courses. This is an opportunity for secondary colleagues to work with teachers from primary. This Work Group is always rated as the most fascinating
and often surprises secondary teachers as to what work they do in primary. Participants will look at fractions across primary and secondary and get an understanding of the methods used.
·Support post-16 resit – do you want to improve results post-16 then this Work Group will look at ways to motivate learners in post 16 and strategies to help students understand.
All the courses will start in January and be held centrally in either Leeds, Halifax or Bradford.
