Speech & Language Therapy for Teenagers with Down Syndrome with Ben Bolton, Friday 13th July at the Down Syndrome Training & Support Service Ltd, Bingley

9.30  Arrive, teas/coffees, networking.

10.00 Ben will use the social model of disability to explore the specific challenges and

considerations of supporting teenagers with Down syndrome to develop their

communication skills. The day will cover:

  •  Teenagers in context; transition from child to adult,
  •  Goal setting with teenagers,
  •  Aligning goals of teenagers, parents, teachers and SLTs
  •  Self-advocacy
  •  Working with teenagers; what do we work on, and how do we make it interesting for

       teenagers?

2.30 Evaluation and finish

 

Ben is a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist and Senior Lecturer in Speech and Language Sciences. He has spent his career working with children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs for the NHS, Local Education Authorities, Charities and in independent practice. During this time he has  developed particular interests in working with people with Down Syndrome and working with teenagers and young adults, with the goal of reducing the barriers that people with communication difficulties may experience. 

 

COST: £20 per head. Refreshments will be provided but please provide your own lunch. If cost
