“Dennis & Gnasher” School Assembly Performances
Mischief Makers Summer Reading Challenge 2018, celebrating the 80th anniversary of
The Beano, starts Saturday 14th July at all Bradford libraries. The Summer Reading Challenge is a national initiative to encourage primary age children to continue to read throughout the summer holidays, not only for enjoyment but also to
prevent the holiday dip in literacy skills.
This year, as part of the support we offer schools to encourage participation in the Summer Reading Challenge, we are offering schools from
BD4; BD5; BD7 & BD8 the opportunity to book one of our specially commissioned “Dennis & Gnasher” story-performances designed especially for school assemblies.
The performance will see Dennis and Gnasher emerging from a dusty old suitcase. It is the start of the summer holidays and Dennis is a bit bored and looking for fun. Then Dennis makes an amazing discovery … The story which includes clowning, puppetry, pranks
and lots of fun will be delivered by Simon Kerrigan and Sian Williams, who have worked with many schools throughout the Bradford district. The message of the Summer Reading Challenge is woven into the story. Children will discover, like Dennis & Gnasher, that
there are heaps of books devoted to mischief and characters like himself and the library is the place to find them.
The School Assembly performances are 15 minutes long and are suitable for whole school assemblies. These special performances are free events but require a firm commitment if booked.
