Celebrate International Women’s Day Thursday 8th March with children’s author Hilary Robinson and
Peace Lily, her new and final book in Where the Poppies Now Grow
quartet of stories.
Bradford Libraries are delighted that we can welcome children’s author Hilary Robinson to City Library for International Women’s Day on Thursday 8th March, with her latest book
Peace Lily.
Peace Lily follows on from Where The Poppies Now Grow, The Christmas Truce
and Flo of the Somme and finds childhood friend, Lily, follow Ben and Ray to the battlefields.
Peace Lily marks the contribution made by women to the First World War and celebrates the common humanity shown by all, on all sides. The book trailer can be found at

Hilary, will be reading the story to the children and answering questions followed by the opportunity for every child to have a “hands on” rag rug making session. The library reading rug has been designed by Bradford school children via our Poppies Competition
and demonstrates traditional skills from the time of WW1 while creating a legacy from the children of Bradford to commemorate the war. To date hundreds of school children have contributed since the rug started in 2014 and the finished rug will be a lasting
remembrance to those who gave their lives during WW1. Throughout the making of the rug the story of
Where The Poppies Now Grow has been read and so it is both poignant and significant that as it nears completion that the final book in the quartet Peace Lily
is part of the rugs’ own beautiful story.
The event will take place on Thursday 8th March 2018, 10am – 11.15am @ City Library,
Centenary Square, Bradford BD1 1NN. It is suitable for Y3,Y4 or Y5. We have places for 60 children from two schools. We will offer one place (30 children max) per school.
