Suffragette Workshop for Y5; Y6: Y7 or Y8 @ Bradford Local History Library

This is a fantastic opportunity for children to find out about the Suffrage movement and to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women receiving the vote, told through performing storytelling, crafts and the chance for children to handle archived documents from Bradford's own history.

Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Suffrage Movement & the Representation of the People Act 1918

at our Suffrage Workshops developed especially for schools at Bradford Libraries.

Bradford Libraries are delighted that we can offer schools three workshops celebrating the centenary of the Representation of the People Act 1918 and the Suffrage Movement.

The workshop will offer children the chance to find out first hand from a local Suffragette (actress & storyteller Irene Lofthouse) about her experience fighting for the right to vote including protests in Bradford and London and a time in jail.  Find out who exactly got the vote on the 6th February 1918, how the press reported the events leading to the act of Parliament and what the significance was to us all. There will an opportunity for the children to view local archive materials and wander around the display as well making the ribbon-pins traditionally worn by the Suffragettes.

Our Suffrage Workshops are all at Bradford Local Studies Library, Margaret McMillan Tower (side entrance), Princes’ Way, Bradford, BD1 1NN. on Monday 5th March  1.15pm – 2.30pm; Tuesday 6th March  1.15pm – 2.30pm, and Friday 9th March  9.30am – 10. 45am (SUITABLE FOR Y5, Y6, Y7, Y8).  All sessions are free of charge. We have places for 30 children for each session from two schools. We will offer one place (15 children max) per school.
