Following the peer challenge there were a number of areas requiring development; a critical area being the need for a multi-agency approach to the decision making in relation to Education, Health and Care assessments, funding and placements. Health and
Social Care are highly committed to ensuring that we have a multi-agency approach to managing the EHC process.
In order to ensure that we have transparency and a robust decision making process we require Headteacher representation on the EHC Panel. I would like to invite primary, secondary and special school Headteachers/senior SEND members of staff to attend on
a 6 weekly rotation. We are asking colleagues to commit to attending the EHC Panel for one full day (8:30 – 17:00), each half term. Colleagues will also be asked to undertake prior reading of panel papers the day before. I am aware that this is a significant
commitment of your valuable time, however, this is an essential priority for the SEND transformation and your support to this is vital.
The first EHC Panel date will be used as a training day / dry run and has been arranged for
Thursday 18 January from 8:30 – 4:30pm (Banqueting Suite, City Hall). Further details to follow in the New Year. Following the training, meetings will commence weekly Thursday 25 January 2018, (every Thursday) 8:30 – 17:00 (it is anticipated
that we finish by 16:30).
A diary request for the training session on 18 January and subsequent meetings will be sent to all members.
This is an exciting opportunity for school colleagues to make a significant contribution to education, health and care decisions and we look forward to receiving your support.
