The programme aims to equip participants with the key skills and knowledge required to perform effectively
in this initial leadership role. Opportunities to learn from the work and experiences of existing middle leaders and support to plan and lead an improvement project in participants’ own schools, will be given.
A total of 15 places are available in this cohort.
Session 1 – Friday 26th January 2018, 1-4pm
The role of middle leaders as subject and/or phase leaders will be explored and participants will have the
opportunity to audit their leadership strengths and identify areas for personal development. We will also look at how to identify priorities and action plan for improvement. A leadership gap task will be introduced.
Session 2 – Friday 16th March 2018, 1-4pm
This session will focus on practical elements of a middle leadership role, including time management, monitoring
and book scrutiny and will also contain an effective influencing workshop. Participants will be given time to share progress on their gap tasks; for coaching and support from middle/senior leaders.
Session 3 – Friday 29th March 2018, 1-4pm
The third session of the programme will look at the essential differences between leadership and management
and will allow participants to identify and reflect on their own leadership styles. There will be consideration of the role of middle leaders during Ofsted inspections and gap task outcomes and impact will be shared. Finally, participants will be invited to
self-reflect and future plan, in light of their personal development and learning through the programme.
A Gap Task will be set during session 2.
