Achieving Excellence in Oracy
An interactive JPD (Joint Practice Development) programme delivered over 5 half days with gap tasks. Led by Bradford Birth to 19 Specialist Leaders in Education (SLE)/Leader of Excellent Practice (LEP) and supported by Clare Reed, Education Works Ltd.
Outcomes:
• Delegates gain in-depth subject knowledge, specifically with identifying children with delayed language
• Delegates know how to support children’s language development across the curriculum
• Development Matters objectives are achieved in a creative and effective manner
• Children can demonstrate expressive and receptive language competency
• Children know how to work collaboratively in both formal and informal situations

Early career teachers, NQTs, RQTs
Course Content
Day 1 (half day):
The importance of oracy, how to identify the ages and stages of language development of pupils in your class and how to recognise and support those pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).
Day 2 (half day):
Understand the processes involved with expressive language and know teaching strategies to develop vocabulary in your classroom
Day 3 (half day):
Understand the processes involved with receptive language and know teaching strategies to develop children’s attention, independence and how to check understanding
Day 4 (half day):
Understand the key aspects of social language and group interaction skills and know teaching strategies to develop these in your classroom
Day 5 (half day):
Oracy in action; delegates will receive in school support from an SLE/LEP who will work with them around planning for and delivering good practice in oracy across the curriculum
Delegates attending the course will receive access to downloadable and hard copies of high quality SLC resources

The venue for day 5 for all phase groups is in the participating school.
All courses will run from 12.30pm to 3.30pm
Participants will need to attend all four workshops for the chosen phase. The cost for all 4 phase workshops is: £300+VAT
