Teaching basic number skills to children with Down syndrom

How do children learn to count? What are the challenges?

How can we help children to understand and learn these vital basic skills?

Recognising numbers, saying the count sequence, counting items and basic addition within 10 all covered.

COURSE RUNNING WEDNESDAY 18th OCTOBER, 9.30 to 12.30 AT THE DOWN SYNDROME TRAINING & SUPPORT SERVICE, BINGLEY

 

Basic number skills are vital for all children.

 

The morning will cover how we learn to count, the challenges faced by children with Down syndrome and other learning disabilities and basic number skills up to 10. It will introduce the Numicon Foundation Kit and include practical activities and suggestions to promote numeracy. It is relevant for staff and parents working with children aged birth upwards who are still working with numbers up to 10.
