In 2017-18 we will be exploring what it means to be working at greater depth
within the expected standard in Mathematics.
This follows on from our successful course in 2016-17: working at the expected standard maths moderation project, although there is no requirement to have attended the Maths Moderation course last year. There will be three afternoon sessions (1:30pm until
3:30pm) across the academic year for each of these groups: KS1 (Years 1 and 2); LKS2 (Years 3 and 4); UKS2 (Years 5 and 6).
This will allow for a summary of expectations at the end of each ‘key stage’ as well as teachers who attend from the same school having quality time to reflect with each other. During the three sessions for each group we will be:
- Exploring how to embed practice into our teaching that enables our ‘higher attainers’ to develop the skills necessary to be assessed at ‘greater depth’
- Creating descriptors for each year group for teachers to refer to when assessing whether a child has reached greater depth or not
- Contributing to an on-line portfolio of exemplification
There will be opportunities for professional dialogue with colleagues from a variety of settings and the course leader, Sharon Day, will be modelling with groups of children for the delegates to observe. This will allow them to see how to promote greater
depth and how to decide if a child has reached working at greater depth within the expected standard.
Candidates who have not attended part 1 of the moderation course will still find this course valuable and useful.
