Support & Joint Practice Development in Primary Reading

To be completed by: Tue 10 Oct 2017

Time: -Tue 10 Oct 2017 | Venue:

This is an exciting opportunity to develop teachers understanding of reading under the new assessment framework. Bradford Birth to 19 TS working with AP Literacy, offer this innovative programme assessing the whole child and tracking children’s progress across the year.

This is an exciting opportunity to develop the understanding of reading under the new assessment framework. Using the process of joint practice development, teachers will work together across three terms, to create a high quality portfolio of annotated reading, videos exemplifying age related expectations in years 1, 3, 4 and 5.

Led by Bradford Birth to 19 TSA Specialist Leaders of Education and supported by Alison Philipson, you will focus on assessing the whole child and will track children’s progress in reading across the year. Bradford teachers involved in this project will learn the skills to enable their school to become a beacon school for assessment across the Bradford district.

We will take a deep dive into the curriculum for that year group - discussing the criteria - so that teachers have a full understanding of what age related expectations look like for their year group.

The first sessions will involve training in the teaching and assessment of reading.

The second session will take the form of a workshop for teachers and up to 3 children where teachers will have the opportunity to carry out a full analysis of children’s reading, identifying which of the criteria children are already meeting, what they need to learn next and how far into age related expectations they are. Teachers will also be supported with how to address gaps in learning so that by the next session, the same children will have moved on in their learning and be further into age related expectations for their year group. Each of these children will be representative of their ability group so this CPD will have an impact on the whole class and consequently the school. We aim to identify CPD requirements at each session.  These will be addressed at subsequent sessions and also used to identify best practice within your schools.

This model of continuing professional development across the year has been proven to have a huge impact on both individuals and schools and consequently on the children you teach.

Some quotes from recent participants of the Writing Moderation Workshops include:

My children's learning will now be more focussed and purposeful.

I have a greater understanding of what age related expectations and greater depth is.

A really excellent day - thank you!

All sessions will be led by BBto19 Specialist Leaders of Education from across the Bradford District and supported by Alison Philipson.
