A Healthy Start for all Children to the New Year

Opportunities for Continuing Professional Development and Support available for families who are looking to find out more about providing the best start in life for their children.

HENRY have been commissioned by Public Health and Better Start Bradford to support the District’s aims of ensuring improved health and well-being for all our children. Evidence tells us that getting things right in the Early Years is critical for ensuring that children will go on to live healthy, happy lives.

Here is an update about some of the opportunities we have for practitioners and parents in the Better Start area to support the work you do in schools to ensure that children have the healthiest start in life. Please feel free to circulate this information.

Practitioner Training:

Core Training (for those who work with directly parents – PIW’s, Family Support Workers)

This free two-day training is aimed at health and early years practitioners or anyone who works directly with families of children aged 0-5 years. The training will enable practitioners to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence in tackling weight issues. We consider not just what information that parents might need in order to develop healthy lifestyles, but how we might be able to approach these topics with parents in a sensitive and effective manner. Our training is evidence-based and RSPH accredited.

When:

18 - 19 January 2017

7 – 8 February 2017 – please attend both days

For more information, or to request a booking form, please contact: nicola.charnock@henry.org.uk

Group Facilitation Training (available to those who have attended HENRY Core Training)

We are currently compiling a waiting list – please let me know if you would like to register your interest for this free two-day training to lead a group programme for parents.

Healthy Start in Childcare Training (for those who work directly with children in Nursery/Reception - teachers, nursery nurses, support assistants)

This free one-day training, accredited by the RSPH, enables staff to:

  • Model a healthy lifestyle to children in their care
  • Adopt a consistent approach around nutrition and activity across all our settings throughout Bradford District
  • Understand the value of active play
  • Increase staff confidence in providing an environment that will promote healthy eating behaviour and making good choices
  • Develop their knowledge about healthy meals, snacks and portion sizes for young children in line with current Public Health, NICE and WHO guidelines
  • Manage behaviour and build self-esteem, so that children start school emotionally prepared and ready to learn
