Feversham Primary Academy held a Heatlh & Wellbeing event last year to launch and raise the profile of the subject across school. There was a focus on cross curricular links so that PSHE was embedded through other subjects.

As a result, a range of external organisations were used to promote awe and wonder In PSHE and to teach about life styles choices, including:

  • Life Caravan

  • Drug awareness workshops by the Children’s Charity

  • Jamie’s Ministry of Food

  • Bradford Bulls assembly, including the Bull Man to launch the week

  • Staff breakfast

  • Scrap books by classes with samples of their work.

Eight week cooking course for parents (Dads) and children – Jamie’s Ministry of Food

This course teaches children and their parents about food in a fun and engaging way, equipping them with the basic skills they need to lead healthier, happier lives for themselves and their future families, including:

  • Target vulnerable groups in the first instance
  • Capacity building – developing parents
  • Audit parents' and children’s knowledge before and after course
  • Promote British values by challenging myths and stereotypes about gender roles.  Promoting cooking amongst dads.

Feversham Primary Academy (FPA) parent and children’s cooking club – commencing in November 2016

A long term cooking club, involving parents and their children at FPA.  This is a follow up after the success of the dad/children’s cooking with Jamie's Ministry of Food. This course will target a wider range of families at the school and equip families with basic skills in healthy cooking and lifestyles.

Six-week oral hygiene programme for parents and Nursery children – Inspired Neighbourhoods

The aim of this programme is to assist parents and children to change attitude and behaviours towards health, whilst promoting oral health care and the prevention of oral diseases.  It wil aslo cover dental health education and the importance of it at home.

BHealthy programme - Jamie’s Ministry of Food – commencing in January 2017 at FPA

A ten-week programme for parents and their children with a focus on tackling obesity.   It will involve an hour's classroom session for parents and children and an hour of physical activity for children by a trained fitness coach. This will start in January 2017 and will tackle obesity in children, educate families about diet, exercise and fitness in young people.
