Jaguar Maths in Motion Opportunity - introductory training 21 September

The Curriculum Innovation team has worked with many Bradford schools over the last 11 years enabling pupils across the authority to maximise the potential of the Jaguar Maths in Motion Challenge. Registration is now open to take part in the 2016-17 challenge.

The online software used is designed to raise attainment and engagement in mathematics in upper Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3. Using tried and tested software that simulates the setting up of a Formula 1 racing car, students encounter a variety of mathematical problem solving activities to prepare their car for a race with others.

The Challenge is a national event culminating in a National Finals Day in Birmingham and we have had a Bradford finalist in ten consecutive finals and we are very proud that Bankfoot Primary has won the Key Stage 2 Final twice.

The provision has a proven track record moving Level 4 maths children to Level 5 and has been used successfully with Pupil Premium children.

Maths concepts covered in the Challenge include the following:

  • Percentages
  • Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication & Division
  • Calculator work (or not!)
  • Decimals, rounding & context
  • Ratios, chance, risk & strategy
  • Angles, measurement & scale
  • Speed, distance & time
  • Maths modelling… what happens if?
  • Interpreting graphs & statistics
  • Data Handling

The Innovation Centre is an official Jaguar Maths in Motion Challenge Centre of Excellence and as such we can provide all training and software to schools in the region.

This year we will be running the Bradford Challenge 2016 - 2017.  This is a series of leagues where local schools compete with each other to be the champion of the Bradford region. All competitors are also entered into the qualifying rounds of the National Finals.

The cost per school is £400 (£375 for subscribing schools). This includes access to all the events below, email / phone support, the online Cars Maths in Motion software (unlimited children) and five online races.  If you would like to purchase access to the online software only this will cost £199 (tbc).

To register please complete the online booking form by clicking here.

The top two schools in each of the leagues will automatically reach the Bradford Final. There will be a Playoff race for all the other schools involved with a further two places in the final available to the top two cars in the play off.

Further information about the Bradford Finals and the National finals will be published once released by the National Challenge Organisers.
