Support Bradford's flagship event for the Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Challenge launching on Friday 18 November 2016

Children’s Commissioner’s Takeover Challenge is the England-wide event where children get to take over adult roles for the day. Bradford District is a flagship hub / area for the Takeover Challenge as up and down the country, organisations hand over the reins of power to children giving organisations access to great ideas and forward thinking initiatives. This provides children with a unique opportunity to learn how the world works. This year’s Challenge is launching on Friday 18th November and we would like to invite you to participate.

Last year over 1,300 organisations across the country were ‘taken over’  by 44,000 children and young people, including hospitals, schools, radio stations, councils and countless local authorities and schools. This year, you can get involved for the day, for a week or throughout the year. You choose.

This year many high profile figures will take part alongside local authorities, schools, businesses, NHS organisations, local newspapers and TV and radio stations. In previous years this has included:

·        The Home Secretary, Shadow Chancellor and other Ministers and parliamentarians

·        The BBC, CBBC and Radio

·        Newspaper editors and journalists

·        The Tate, V & A, Museums, art galleries and theatres

·        Tesco, the Co-operative Group and other retail companies

We are looking for Bradford Schools to join us and we hope you will get involved in this great initiative. To find out more about it you can look at

Of course this needs a bit of planning, but imagine a school being run by children and young people for the day with children taking on roles such as meeting and greeting in reception, working alongside teachers in the classrooms and chairing the school governors meeting!

There are benefits all round - It puts our district’s children and young people in decision-making positions and encourages and supports the voice of children and young people being heard.

We hope that you are able to support this initiative and we would be delighted to work in partnership with your school. If you are interested in getting involved please drop an email to the address: and let us know who in your school we need to liaise with to develop your offer.
