Westbourne Primary School regains its good status

Westbourne Primary School is celebrating being judged as good with outstanding provision in its Early Years following its latest Ofsted inspection.

In a very complimentary report the inspectors found that:  "Leaders have been successful in increasing their impact since the last inspection,” and "teaching, learning and assessment are good because of the good leadership of teaching.”

Inspectors also said:  "Leadership in the early years is outstanding, resulting in excellent provision and strong outcomes for children.”

Other comments from the report include:

  • Children enjoy coming to school because relationships are strong, they know what is expected of them and they find learning fun.
  • Standards in writing and mathematics have risen, and attainment in reading in Key Stage 1 has also improved.
  • Pupils have a ‘can do’ attitude because of the good teaching and care they receive.
  • Teachers creatively ensure that reading is part of almost every lesson to further pupils’ progress in learning to read well.

Belinda Wardle, Headteacher, said:  "We are delighted with this report as this shows that Ofsted sees the school as we do.  Everyone - pupils, staff, parents, Governors and the wider community - who has worked hard to bring about this positive outcome should be justly very proud.

"We are having a Party Day in school on Thursday this week to celebrate the successful Ofsted report.  Children will come to school in their party clothes and will enjoy games and treats.”

Coun Susan Hinchcliffe, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Education, Skills and Culture, said:  "This is excellent news for Westbourne Primary school.  This is another example of how dedicated pupils, staff, parents and Governors, all working together can make school life and learning both effective and enjoyable at the same time.”

The school’s Chair of Governors, Ros Garside, said:  "The governors are delighted that the school is now good. We would like to thank the head and staff for their commitment and hard work and the community for their support.”

The inspectors spoke of the effective Governance of the school and also the strength of the partnership with parents.
