Record low NEET rate for 16 to 18 year olds in Bradford district

The Council's Connexions Bradford service tracks young residents from the end of year 11. November, December & January are the traditional 'target' months for comparisons with England and other LAs. This year our NEET (not in education, employment or training) rate was a record low of 3.5%.

At the end of January 2016 there were 19,497 residents of academic ages 16 to 18 on the Council's IYSS database. Of these, 17,536 were recorded by Connexions workers as being in various types of employment, education or training; and 651 were not in education, employment or training (NEET).

Reducing the NEET rate and increasing the participation in learning rate are important targets nationally and locally. The traditional period for making comparisons between our adjusted NEET rate and national and other LA figures is across the months of November, December and January.

Bradford's adjusted NEET rate for those 3 months was a record low of 3.5%. The Department for Education has just published figures for all 152 English local authorities. The England figure was 0.7 percentage points higher than Bradford's, at 4.2%. Bradford's position out of the 152 LAs (for lowest NEET) was joint 47th. And Bradford had the lowest NEET rate in West Yorkshire.
