Code Club creates projects for volunteers to teach at after school coding clubs. These projects teach children how to program by showing them how to make their own computer games, animations and websites.
Code Club volunteers go to their local club for an hour a week and teach one project a week. Each term the students will progress and learn more whilst at the same time using their imaginations and making creative projects.
Online training makes sure volunteers have all the info and know-how they need to run a successful Code Club.
There are two options for running your club: a ‘teacher-led’ club where you run the club yourself or a ‘volunteer-led’ club where you collaborate with a volunteer to help you run the club.
To run a Code Club yourself, you don’t need to have coding skills. The Code Club projects provide structured and fun content for your club members. The
projects are step by step guides for children to follow to create animations, games, websites and much more. Children will build up their programming skills as they move through the projects; and extension
activities provide opportunities to demonstrate and apply what’s been learnt.
By starting a club at your school you’ll be joining a huge community of teachers who do the same thing - around 50% of our Code Clubs are run by teachers. Running a Code Club can give you the confidence to teach the coding curriculum and to integrate computing
into your everyday lessons.
It’s very simple to get started. First, register yourself at the Code Club website
here. Once you’ve entered your details, go to the ‘find a volunteer’ section but instead of searching for a volunteer, click the handy button to tell us you will be running the club yourself. Your club
will then become active and you can access all our resources.
If you would like to find a volunteer to help you run your Code Club, first register yourself as a club host
here. You can start a search for volunteers straight away and send them a message through the website. Your school will appear on searches as a venue looking for a volunteer so volunteers in your area will
be able to find you on our website and get in contact with you too.
