Free Computing courses offered by the National STEM centre

These free residential courses listed below are offered by the National STEM centre at York and will be delivered by staff from the Bradford Curriculum Innovation Team. The two day courses are free including accommodation and meals.

How is this free? You are eligible for and ENTHUSE award which covers the cost of the course and accommodation - all you need to do is complete some simple paper work and action plan. This is a great free quality CPD opportunity for any school! Detail of the provision is below.

Using film technology to support Primary Literacy 14/12/2015 or 17/06/16 (2 Day)

This is a 2 day course designed for teachers and teaching assistants who wish to explore the use of film technology as a tool for raising attainment in reading and writing. Beginning with the role that film can play in the classroom, the course will explore a variety of film related skills and techniques, from film analysis and shot direction to creating content using accessible technology andsoftware.

Delivering the coding elements of the national curriculum at KS2 11/01/16 (2 Day)

This course takes you through the principles of the computing curriculum focusing on coding / programming, giving you ‘hands on’ opportunities to experience a number of different methods to develop your skills in Scratch and other free to use software. It will give you the teaching techniques that you require to make programming work for you and your students. In 2 days, we will take you from creating simple programs to the exciting world of computer games creation.

Delivering the coding elements of the national curriculum at KS1 21/01/2016 (2 Day)

This course takes you through the principles of the computing curriculum focusing on coding /programming in KS1. The course begins on the evening of day 1, with discussion over dinner around existing provision and an opportunity to share planning and resources with the group. On day 2, the course will divide the day between discussion, information and opportunity to develop your own ‘hands on’ coding skills enabling you to deliver an appropriate coding curriculum for KS1.

Using ICT effectively in early years foundation stage 4/2/2016 (2 Day)

This unique course offers teachers of EYFS the opportunity to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding of ICT to effectively enrich classroom experiences for pupils.
