Sexuality relationships education and Down Syndrome

Sexual relationships education is vital to ensure young people with Down Syndrome and other learning disabilities begin to understand the rules and boundaries around friendships, public and private actions, touch, conversations, body parts and places and work towards becoming their own protector.

This course will run on 5 Fridays 9.30-12.00am starting 6 November.  Places limited to 10.

The course will cover:

Week 1:  How important SRE is for young people with learning disabilities. Names for body parts. Privacy.

Week 2:  Puberty for girls, puberty for boys,

Week 3:  Feelings, personal hygiene, self help skills.

Week 4:  Masturbation, touching, hugging, affection,

friendships, relationships and dating.

Week 5:  Safety in the community. Assertiveness. Abuse prevention strategies. SRE in schools.

Cost:  £150 per professional/£50 second professional from same organisation/£50 per parent. This is for the 5 week course and includes a folder of handouts and disc of resources for you to take and keep.
