Bonfire night safety

As bonfire night approaches, we encourage schools to emphasise with students the importance of staying safe around bonfires and fireworks.

No doubt teachers will be relaying appropriate messages to their students in the run up to bonfire night next Monday. The Emergency Management Team wish to point out that bonfire and firework related activities can occur over the weekend before the 5th, and for two or three days afterwards.

It is particularly important to ensure that piles of bonfire material (timber from a recently demolished classroom, old window frames etc) are not left in a place where they can be  set fire to, putting the school or adjacent buildings at risk.

Also, if you are planning a bonfire of your own, please ensure that the Emergency Planning Team are notified in advance via Chris Slaven
