SCHOOLS’ PROM 2016
WEDNESDAY 23 MARCH AND THURSDAY 24 MARCH 2016, ST GEORGE’S HALL
We have booked the above dates at St. George’s Hall for our annual Schools’ Prom concerts and would love you to take part.
One of the highlights of the Prom concerts is always the large primary school chorus that comes together to sing and this is an invitation to primary schools to apply to be part of this.
We are looking for up to 32 pupils, ideally from Years 4, 5 & 6, from approximately 10 schools to form the chorus.
We will not be able to visit each school to go through the songs beforehand, therefore we are asking the schools to rehearse them in their own time.
Each school will be issued with materials to aid rehearsal of the pieces and we have arranged an inset course to help schools’ teachers on 20 January 2016 at 4.30pm at Future House.
It would be beneficial to have a representative from your school there as, from experience, schools that did not attend found the process more difficult.
We request that any teachers accompanying pupils on stage also learn the songs and actions so that they can take part in the performance alongside their students.
Arrangements for transport and supervision will have to remain the responsibility of each individual school. The success of the concert is dependent on each participant’s commitment to the rehearsal. Please check the schedule carefully.
The schedule is:
Rehearsal: Wednesday 23 or Thursday 24 March 2016 (depending on which concert you are taking part in) at St. George’s Hall, 10am – 1pm.
** Schools are welcome to stay to eat a packed lunch in the auditorium afterwards if they wish **
Concert: Wednesday 23 or Thursday 24 March 2016 at St. George’s Hall 7.00pm start
** Schools taking part will be expected to arrive by at least 6.30pm **
Please consider whether or not your school would like to be involved. Commitment to rehearsing the songs, taking part in the inset training and providing staff to accompany your students is essential. We have always had a good response to our invitations
to take part and so requests will be handled on a first come first served
basis. Schools that have not previously taken part will be given primary consideration. Please fill in the
attached form and return it by post, fax or email no later than
23 October 2015.
As we are sure you are aware it is impossible to involve every school in the city but we are trying to involve as many young people as possible in this year’s Prom.
The performance will be filmed and photographs will be taken by the Music & Arts Service and the Press. These may be used by the Music and Arts Service for promoting their activities and music-making in Bradford generally. It is important that parents of
those taking part have been informed of this, unless you have a standing arrangement for such permissions. We hope to produce a DVD of each night’s performance and there will be an opportunity for parents to pre-order these on the evening.
We will be in touch as soon as possible after the closing date to let you know if you have been successful or not and to provide further details as necessary.
