Year 10 Choices 2015

This two day event in July is aimed at Year 10 students and is an opportunity to sample a range of vocational and practical options at their local college.

As part of the Confederation work on transition to post 16, we are organising, as we have done in previous years, a 2 day event in July when Year 10 students can sample a variety of sessions, covering a range of vocational and practical options.  We hope this will prompt students to think about their post 16 options if they haven’t already.

A master copy of the choices form will be sent to your Year 10 named lead by one of the providers. The provider who contacts your school will be the point of contact for your school in relation to Year 10 Choices (This has been chosen at random).

Taster sessions will be provided by:

  • Bradford College
  • Keighley College
  • Shipley College
  • Leeds City College Keighley Campus
  • Aspire-igen

There will be a maximum of 4 sessions over the 2 days, see table below:

Day 1 & Day 2

9.15 – 9.30

Arrive and Welcome

9.30 – 12.00

Taster session 1

12.00 – 12.30

12.30 – 2.30

Taster session 2

Students can choose to come for half a day, one day or two full days, there is also the option to swap training providers on day 2 i.e. they could go to Bradford College on the first day and then go to Shipley College on the 2nd day but we can’t accommodate a student to change training organisations during the day from morning to afternoon.

We have asked the students to choose an option from each session; if they are coming over 2 days, they would then choose 4 options, morning and afternoon over both days. We will hopefully be able to give the students their first and second choice but in the event of a session being oversubscribed we will contact the school and ask for another choice.

The process

Students collect or are given an options form from their school lead. This will need to be photocopied from the master copy sent via email to the school.

When the student has completed the form they will need to get the form signed by their parent/carer giving them consent to attend. These forms should then be signed or stamped by the school representative to authorise the student to be able to attend. Any forms that haven’t been signed by both the parent/carer and school will be returned as the signature will act as a risk assessment for the student.

Forms should then be sent to your lead provider (regardless of which provider the students have chosen) as responses will be collated onto a master spreadsheet. It would help if forms are sent to the lead provider in small batches when they have been received so that local administrators can deal with applications on a first come first served basis. The final deadline will be 17 June, forms received after this date we cannot guarantee a place.

22 June Student lists are finalised and lists sent back to the schools. Training providers will contact students to confirm their place and welcome them to the College with any special instructions or directions.

7/8 July Event will take place.  Travel tickets will not be provided by Bradford Council but it is up to the school or provider to discuss any travel arrangements.

Year 10 Choices and clashes with schools' Work Experience Week

We are aware that Year 10 Choices 2015 may coincide with some ‘work experience weeks’ that schools intend to offer.  We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but hope that Year 10 Choices is viewed as complementary activity intended to offer further opportunities for young people to find out about post 16 options available across the district.  Also, it may be a suitable alternative for those students not attending your schools organised Work Experience Week.

If a student is taking part in Year 10 Choices during their School Work Experience Week we request that your school’s Work Experience Coordinators contact the Bradford Work experience team by emailing

It is also a requirement of the school to inform the employer (hosting the work experience) direct.
