Supporting high quality provision outdoors - a one day conference

Play Garden are organising an exciting half-day conference at St Edmund's Nursery & Children's Centre on Saturday 27 June 9.30 - 12.30, with inspirational speakers guiding you through the importance of providing outdoor provision in the early years.

Our key aim is to support you with practical advice and information so that you can improve learning outcomes for every child.

  • Learn about Simply Play, a freely available play value assessment tool used to assess the quality of your outdoor environment
  • Understand about how St Edmund’s Nursery created a flexible landscape, rich in play, learning and developmental opportunities

9.45 - Presentation from Beth Cooper* from Simply Play, a freely available play assessment tool developed to support better understanding of play and the creation of improved outdoor spaces. 

10.45 - Tour of the outdoor space. Refreshments

11.15 - Presentation from Sarah Gordon*, Lead Practitioner in Early Years Education at St Edmund's.

Beth Cooper*

Beth Cooper is a Creative Play Consultant for Timberplay.  After working in community arts and street performance she began studying a BA in Children and Playwork at Sheffield Hallam, graduating with Honours in 2009. She was responsible for the development of Simply Play as part of a Knowledge Transfer Partnership between Sheffield Hallam and Timberplay, applying her vast knowledge of play theory to the practical commercial world of play.

Sarah Gordon*

Sarah is Assistant Head at St Edmund's and Programme Writer and Trainer for the Birth to 19 Teaching School Alliance. With 20 years’ experience in the Early Years and Special Needs field, Sarah has amassed great knowledge in supporting child development. She headed up the creation of the outstanding outdoor environment and continues to work closely with school staff and parents to ensure the space meets its potential.
