Fixed Play Equipment

The Occupational Safety Team is issuing new guidance on fixed play equipment that pupils play on either in the school setting or on trips to parks or similar play areas.

Fixed play equipment is installed in nearly every school playground accross the country. The benefits of using the equipment, which enriches play and encourages physical activity, far out weighs the risks. That is, if the risks are properly managed and controlled. With this in mind, we are publishing three guidance documents which will help you ensure that your pupils are as safe as they need to be whilst using the equipment.

The first document highlights the importance of not adorning play equipment with bunting, cable ties and ropes. The second document describes the importance of maintaining 'fall zones' around the equipment. The third document explains what you need to know about the EN standards for fixed play equipment.

The three guidance documents can be found on the schools page of our website here
