Specialist Provision for Children with Communication and Interaction Needs

The Strategic Director of Children's Services has given his approval to consult on the proposals to develop new provision for children and young people with communication and interaction needs.

There are 3 separate proposals:

  • The development of new provision for primary aged children and young people with communication and interaction needs including Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC) by establishing a Designated Specialist Provision (DSP) at Haworth Primary School.
  • The development of Learn and Play provision for pre 5 children with communication and interaction needs including autistic spectrum conditions (ASC) by establishing a Designated Specialist Provision (DSP) at High Park School.
  • To increase the pupil numbers at High Park School from 80 to 95.

Prior to the publication of statutory notices, the Local Authority is required to undertake consultation with all key stakeholders.  The consultation period will run from 13 April to 11 May 2015.  The outcome of the consultation will be considered by the Strategic Director of Children’s Services who will determine whether the Local Authority should proceed with the publication of statutory notices.  The outcome of the statutory consultation will be the subject of a report to the Council’s Executive in September 2015.

If we are able to proceed as we hope it is proposed that the provision will be open to pupils from January 2016.

Details of how interested parties may respond to the consultation are set out in the attached letter.

Any interested parties are invited to attend one of the public consultation meetings that are taking place at the end of April.

We would appreciate if you could make the necessary arrangements for a copy of this letter to be made available to parents, staff and governors during the course of the coming week, via your usual communication routes.

The consultation documentation is available on the consultation section of the Council’s website.
