Harry Potter Night @ Bradford Libraries

Bradford Libraries are asking schools to make parents aware that they will be offering an early evening of wizard fun for children and families and the chance to discover and share the magical world of Harry Potter.

Broomsticks at the Ready!  An invitation for all Harry Potter fans to celebrate The First Ever Harry Potter Night on Thursday 5 February with Bradford Libraries. There are after-school events at 18 libraries around Bradford, suitable for children and

their parents. All events are free.

Bradford Libraries will be offering an early evening of wizard fun for children and families and the chance to discover and share the magical world of Harry Potter.  So jump on your broomsticks or take the Hogwarts Express to a library near you and remember to bring your wand – just in case! But don’t worry if you’ve mislaid yours as we have Harry Potter wand and magicians hat-making at City Library from 4.30pm to 5.30pm. At Haworth Road Library you can also make a Harry Potter wand and help create a Harry Potter collage from 3pm to 4pm.

At Holmewood Library between 3.30pm to 4.30pm you can make Hedwig – Harry’s Owl and play Quidditch with Harry Potter prizes for top scorers. Idle Library will also be making Hedwig complete with Hogwarts Acceptance Letter along with Hogwarts Crest Collage and a Harry Potter quiz to test your knowledge of all things Harry Potter. All from 3pm.

At Keighley Library not only can you make Hedwig but also Pygmy Puffs from 3.30pm. There is a Harry Potter Treasure Hunt at Wyke Library from 4pm – 5pm. Booking is essential for the treasure hunt.  At Wibsey Library you can make Harry Potter sorting hats; broomsticks and a marauders map from 3.45pm.  Not to be left out Laisterdyke Library from 5pm are making Harry Potter wands and essential on trend Harry Potter glasses. Burley Library and Menston Library are having their very own Diagon Alley Hunt with both sessions starting at 3.30pm. Manningham Library making Harry Potter mini wizards from 4pm – 5pm. Girlington Library will also be making Harry Potter mini wizards with children from Girlington Primary.

We also have storytelling sessions; reading extracts from some of the Harry Potter books. Well we are the library service and we know Harry would approve. Ilkley Library staff will be dressing up as Harry Potter characters and reading Harry Potter extracts and are inviting children to come along dressed up too. They will have Harry Potter crafts and quizzes and even some “Potions” to sample, all from 3.30pm.  At Shipley Library, Baildon Library and Bingley Library you can listen to Harry Potter extracts, make Harry Potter wands and take part in the Diagon Alley Hunt.  There will be Harry Potter activity sheets and online access all evening, right up until the witching hour – which is just before 7pm for libraries. With each session starting at 3.45pm.

St Augustine’s Library will be making broomstick bookmarks from 4pm which will be useful as we have Harry Potter books in every library.  At Clayton Library from 3.30pm to 4.30pm there will be Harry Potter crafts and a Harry Potter colouring competition with a chance to win a Harry Potter book.

For those attending a Harry Potter library event we have a Harry Potter competition to test your knowledge. The question is The  four houses at Hogwarts are named after the founding wizards and witches. What are they called?

Bring your answers on a postcard along to one of our events, with your name, age, school and telephone number on in block capital letters. The first correct answer drawn will receive a Harry Potter prize. Postcards must be marked for the attention of Christinea Donnelly DO:YP Ilkley Library and handed into a member of staff at the library you are attending.

For more details of all these events visit www.bradford.gov.uk/libraries  or ring the library directly. Alternatively you can contact Christinea Donnelly Development Officer for Young People on 01274 433915.
