Launch of self harm policy for Bradford Schools 3 February and 4 February 3.30-5.00pm in Conference Room D Future House, and at the Council
Chamber in Keighley on 10 February 2015, 3.30-5.00pm. All welcome but the event is particularly relevant to Inclusion Managers and/or members of the Senior Leadership Team responsible for safeguarding.
The policy has been commissioned by the Mental Health in Schools Strategy Group (MHSSG) and drawn up by Dr Fahmeeda Ansari clinical psychologist, CAMHS and Lisa Stead, Team Manager, CAMHS, in consultation with the MHSSG and ratified by the Healthy Minds
Strategy Group and the SEN and Disability Partnership. The policy will be launched Dr Fameeda Ansari, and Dr Philippa Grace, Educational Psychologist and chair of Mental Health in Schools Strategy Group.
The purpose of the policy is to have a co-ordinated approach across all Bradford Schools, with consistent responses to young people who are self harming, based upon evidence based practice. We hope the policy will offer guidance, information and support
about a matter which causes school staff high levels of anxiety. In addition we are also launching a recording protocol to try to gather a more accurate picture of the nature of self harm in Bradford Schools, this should help us to target our resources more
efficiently and effectively as we try to address this issue.
The launch will take place at three drop in sessions on 3, 4 and 10 February 2015, between 3.30-5.00pm at which a training update will be delivered alongside a rationale of the policy and a protocol for gathering and recording data.
This is just one pillar of the wider Mental Health Matters in Bradford initiative, which also aims to give young people information about a range of mental health issues to help understand and manage some of their own mental health and emotional wellbeing
needs, and to signpost them to support if they would like this.
