New Computing Curriculum - Programming in Key Stage 1 Course

This one-day Curriculum Innovation course on Wednesday 12 November will familiarise teachers with the programming requirements outlined in the draft Computing Curriculum.

We will look at the key concepts involved in programming with young children and how this translates into activities that work in the classroom.

During the day there will be a chance to:

  • Get to grips with the latest free and paid software and sites.
  • Learn child friendly programming on iPads, iPods and Android tablets.
  • Use Beebots and other programmable robots along with the most useful free and paid supporting resources.
  • Explore ways to teach and test algorithms, and longer processes, using non-digital methods.

Teachers will learn how to make programming an enjoyable, exciting and challenging activity for all of their children. There will be time to discuss approaches with fellow professionals and build programming into your own planning. This course is suitable for Key Stage One Teachers and ICT Subject Managers.
