I can work

We are running a pilot project called ‘I can work’ aimed at getting young adults with Down syndrome into local work placements and it is proving quite tricky – things are easier said than done!

We have a number of local businesses on board, but currently only one placement has started at Mortgage Advice Bureau, Bingley.

One obstacle is the lack of experienced adults who can help to support both the young person and place of employment during the placement.

We are seeking experienced, possibly semi-retired adults to help with this support for between 5 and 15 hours each week. This can be very flexible.

We will provide training on Down syndrome, learning disability awareness, inclusion, ongoing support and personal expenses.
