Sheffield Hallam University, in partnership with the charity Teach First, is committed to breaking the link between low educational attainment and socio-economic disadvantage.

Teach First recruits high-calibre graduates with a proven set of key competencies, and together with Sheffield Hallam University inducts them into teaching through an intensive five-week Summer Institute. The trainee teachers are matched to vacancies in schools and work as part of the staff team for a minimum of two years, with an emphasis on raising the attainment and aspirations of the children in their class. The Teach First Programme involves achievement of QTS in year one working towards a PGDE (worth twice the academic credits of a PGCE) by the end of year 2 and access to a range of training and development for your school.

Sheffield Hallam University, as providers of Initial Teacher Education for Teach First in Yorkshire and the Humber, have worked in partnership across both the Primary and Secondary phases since 2009 appointing over 1200 trainee teachers into partner schools.

In 2017/18, 99% of Yorkshire and the Humber Teach First trainees were graded either ‘Outstanding’ or ‘Good’.

Teach First is currently inviting primary schools in Bradford to work in partnership. We would very much like to discuss how we can work in partnership together with Bradford schools.
