An overview of the Children & Families Act 2014
The Children and Families Act 2014 includes information about services for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and disabilities (SEND).
Changes that were brought in as part of the introduction of the Act include:
A ‘Local Offer’ website was created about available services to children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their families in Bradford district. Visit
Bradford's Local Offer website here.
Statements of Special Educational Needs were replaced with a new Single Education, Health & Care Plan for children and young people aged birth to 25 for as long as the young person remains in education and learning. Read more about
Education, Health & Care Plans here.
Joint commissioning: local commissioners required to work together in the interests of children and young people with SEND. These arrangements must be robust enough to reach a decision in every case, and regularly reviewed.
Children and young people entitled to a Single Education, Health and Care Plan will be able to ask for their support to be provided through a personal budget. Read more about
personal budgets here.
