BBC Music Day 2017
THE POWER OF MUSIC
BBC Music Day will connect communities and generations with an inspirational celebration of music across the UK. This nationwide initiative takes place on Thursday, 15 June 2017.
In a celebration of the musical passion and creativity of the UK, there will be large scale musical events as well as locally-organised activities; intergenerational singing and a wealth of musical innovation from classical to pop.
Coverage is planned across the whole day via Local and Network BBC TV & Radio.
With support from ambassadors and organisations including Music Education Hubs, music charities and local councils, BBC Music Day has become an annual fixture in the calendar, celebrating our diverse musical talent, forging new musical collaborations and
inspiring new connections.
Bradford has been asked again as one of the main cities to host this event. Get the date in the school diary and make it a day the children will not forget.

A simply wonderful launch of the Bradford Festival with a non-stop celebration of music, with school performances and Bradford District ensembles performing with perfection, culminating in the
Bradford Youth Orchestra's stunning final performance before their tourof Lake Garda later on this month.
10 June 2016 - One Britain One Nation - City Park
On the morning of Friday 10th June 2016 there was a gathering in the city square of every city in the country. Here there was entertainment
to create a civic royal reception theme that entertained the gathering crowd consisting of all communities. Wibsey Primary School sang their competition-winning song on the theme of unity and the Bradford Youth Brass Band performed a medley of hits, to the
backdrop of royal-inspired artwork created by local primary schools.
20 April 2016 - Music Education Conference - Bradford Bulls Conference Centre
Our second annual conference was a smash hit with all delegates, who found the workshops on supporting talent and bamboo tamboo particularly helpful and enjoyable!
23 & 24 March - Schools' Prom 2016 at St George's Hall, Bradford
This year proved to the Schools' Prom that just kept on giving, both nights offering specatular entertainment from our very talented young people across the District!
Presenter Naomi Wilkinson brought out the best in all the performers: from energetic primary choruses, massed KS2 bamboo tamboo composed by our own Mr Payne, a joint signing choir, a special school's own special beats and a rock
band, to our timelessly fabulous Bradford Youth Wind and Youth Orchestras, a contemporary twist on classical pieces and fantastic song and dance show-stoppers from secondary schools to the Lord Mayor Festival of Talent winners, there was a treat for everyone!
5 June 2015 - BBC Music Day at City Park, Bradford
For its inaugural Music Day, the BBC chose Bradford as the sole Yorkshire location to host this prestigious and what will become annual, event. Over 700 Bradford pupils took part in this specatular day which
took place from 12.30 - 8 pm. The purpose was to join intergenerational communities via song and music making, featuring a massed Sing Out For Bradford as well as a joint Body Percussion piece based on BBC Ten Pieces' Connnect It by Anna Meredith. Pupils
in various bands and orchestras performed on the stage throughout the day, with local buskers entertaining the crowds around City Park. The BBC brought their interactive Experience Tent where people could enjoy practising reading the news, presenting the
weather and meeting BBC characters. In the early evening, Hammonds Saltaire Brass Band joined with the Music & Arts Service's Youth Brass Band for a stunning performance, whilst the Bradford Youth Orchestra teamed up with the respected Southbank Sinfonia
to give a stirring rendition of Handel's Zadok The Priest which was fit for a king! Later in the evening, local contemporary bands, from Hindi Indie to progressive rock, took to the stage to delight audiences. The entire day was filmed by BBC's Look North,
with its presenter Harry Gration lauching himself into each group event with gusto!

25 & 26 March 2015 - Schools' Prom at St George's Hall, Bradford BD1
We were pleased to announce another spectacular line up for our prestigious and highly-anticipated Schools' Prom 2015, hosted by TV Presenter

As ever, the District's secondary schools wowed the audience with amazing original performances: including dances, a pop choir, a selection from Disney's High School Musical
and a talent-winning acro gymnatic duo!
Amongst other guest appearances werethe winners of the Amp Awards and Lady Mayoress Festival of Talent, as well as a massed KS2 Body Percussion Group.

Christmas Festival - 16 December 2014 at Bradford Cathedral
The festive season was kicked off with a cracker of a concert with our own Bradford Youth Orchestra led by Mr Griffiths. Carols were sung and guests were treated to the lovely voices of St James' Church and Woodside Academy Primary
Choirs as well as the St Winefride's Catholic Primary Guitar Concert Group. The Deputy Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress attended the performance in the majestic surroundings of the Cathedral.
MAD Day 2 - The Return! 26 & 27 June 2014 at City Park
These 2 days of Music, Art and Dance saw 2400 Bradford pupils frolic in the fountains in Centenary Square to music played by the Bradford Youth Orchestra whilst Bradford Bulls and Bradford City players faced each other in a Cycle Off!
This was the culmination to each day of this fabulous event held to celebrate the start of the Grand Depart. During the days, pupils had the opportunity to take part in kinetrics, cycling to help to generate sufficient electricity to power the onstage music
acts, drawn from a wide variety of styles, and artwork in the form of painting 3D wooden elephants which will be displayed around the District. The wood was kindly donated by Arnold Laver of Bradford. Pupils and staff also all participated in a well-rehearsed
Mega Sing, led by Helen Richmond, and a Mega Dance, vibrantly choreographed by DM Dance Academy, Shipley.

Despite some showers on Friday 27 June, the atmosphere created by pupils and the performances alike refused to be dampened and feedback from participating schools was overwhelmingly, "when can we do it again?" Watch this space for MAD
Christmas Festival 2013
The Christmas Festival at Bradford Cathedral on 17 December 2013 was well-attended and packed full of oustanding performances from pupils across the District. There was plenty of festive spirt, with a sizzling samba group from St Anthony's
Catholic Primary School in Shipley and some great singers from Thornton Grammar School, as well as the choir made up of pupils from St James' Church and St Anthony's Catholic Primary Schools. The Music & Arts Service's Music Centre Ensembles of popular Junior
Brass Band and Youth Wind Orchestra delivered sets to their usual high standard and the carol singing was enjoyed by all.
Bradford Music Education Hub Launch Event - 6 July 2013 at St George's Hall
St George's Hall rocked on 6 July to the sounds of orchestral, accoustic and rock performances by the young people of the Bradford District! Officially opened by Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden and featuring taiko drum, Ipad garageband
and instrument art workshops, over 500 people were kept entertained throughout the day. Hub partners manned their trade stalls, giving visitors a greater insight into the cohesive working partnerships of these organisations, whilst the Town Crier tirelessly handed
out balloons and goody bags to visitors. The hub was also celebrating its new website,
www.bradfordmusiconline.co.uk, which is a one-stop shop for music learning in the area, with sections for schools, music learners, music leaders and parents. It provides information about musical pathways
as well as gigs, training, competitions and funding.
Schools' Prom 2013 - March 26 and 27 at St George's Hall
The Schools' Prom 2013, held at St George's Hall on 26 & 27 March, delivered on its promise of further nights of music, dance and drama spectaculars! With over 800 pupils from the Bradford District taking part, the menu featured primary
school choirs, secondary school dance and musical theatre productions, as well asa signing choir and the re-formation for these 2 nights only, of the Vivendi Bradford Massed Ensemble which gave a 'jaw-dropping performance' at the Royal Albert Hall in November
2012 as part of Music for Youth's Schools' Prom.

Music for Youth's Schools' Prom 2012 at the Royal Albert Hall, which took place on 12 November 2012 saw 'jaw dropping performances' by the Vivendi Bradford Massed Ensemble according to Classic FM. Fittingly, the 600-strong
group, which included musicians aged between 7 and 21 from the Bradford, Kirkless and Calderdale Districts, performed a piece entitled Strength in Numbers by celebrated composer Joe Broughton. The Vivendi Youth Orchestra, aged between 11 and 21, performed
the patriotic classic, Pomp & Circumstance March No. 1 by Elgar which really got the crowd going!

Music Art Dance Day, part of Bradford District Schools Cultural and Sport Olympiad celebrating the Olympics in a week-long festival at Odsal Stadium, kicked off proceedings on Monday 25 June 2012.
Over 10,000 pupils from 107 Bradford District schools (87 primary, 14 secondary, 5 special and 1 PRU), participated in the various fun events hosted by popular childrens presenter Barney Harwood. Cheerleaders from 22 schools entertained the crowds as the
home of the Bradford Bulls filled up with excited children as well as the sound of the marvellous Southbank Sinfonia, an orchestra of young professionals described by the Times as a dashing ensemble who play with exhilirating fizz, exactness and stamina and
who have been working with Bradfords Music & Art Service in a 3 year partnership to develop and enhance local talent.
The day also saw the creation of a new Guinness world-record for mass zumba, with 4128 participants in moves choreographed by ZumbaBradford. A giant mosaic of artwork, consisting of 240 double bedsheets, all painted by schoolchildren
to reflect the Olympic Rings and the 26 sports being competed for at London 2012, was unveiled on the pitch to the accompaniment of an RAF Dakota flypast. Freeman Grattan Holdings had kindly donated the sheets whilst Whaleys of Bradford very generously undertook
the gigantic task of coherently sewing them together. The rousing Mega Sing finale, led by Beccy Owen, had the stands on their feet.

Music & Arts Fun Day was held on 26 May 2012 at Future House. The Bradford Youth Orchestra and North and South Bradford Music Centre Ensembles performed in a celebratory day featuring games, workshops, falconry
display and a musical quiz. £253.56 was raised in a raffle in aid of Music and the Deaf, a worthy recipient chosen by the Service for the second year running.
The 11th annual Schools Prom was held at St Georges Hall over 2 nights, 27 and 28 March 2012. This extravaganza of talent was hosted by popular childrens presenter Barney Harwood and featured secnes from musicals,
drama and dance items, samba and banghra fusion, as well as a schools choir of 160. Over 700 Bradford District pupils took part in this well-received and exciting event at a prestigious city venue.

The Music & Arts Service hosted 2 Christmas Concerts and a Christmas Festival 2012
over the festive period. The concerts took place at Victoria Hall, Saltaire and Craiglands Hotel, Ilkley and were an opportunity for friends and families of participating North and South Bradford Music Centre members to celebrate the season through both
contemporary and traditional music performances. Both events were sold out and thoroughly enjoyed by those who attended. A typical reaction came from this audience member, "just wanted to say my father and I really enjoyed ourselves on Tuesday evening at
the concert and look forward to more of the same in the future".
The Christmas Festival was held in the majesty of Bradford Cathedral and featured the Bradford Youth Orchestra and Bradford Schools Choir as well as pupils from Bradford District Schools. The audience were treated to several ever-popular
Christmas Carols as well as mulled wine to ensure the Christmas spirit got well under way!
The Music & Arts Service run regular Big Plays both at Future House and at North Bradford Music Centre to give all young people an opportunity to play in a large group with various instruments. This is a useful stepping stone towards
joining a band or orchestra and developing performing skills. The last Big Play on 29 February 2012 was attended by over 20 pupils, who will also give a special concert as part of the Music & Arts Day on 26 May 2012.
The Music & Arts Service held a Celebration Day on Saturday 25 June 2011 at Future House. The day was hugely successful and enjoyable, giving the Bradford pupils who play in orchestras and music centre ensembles a
chance to perform to a wide audience, as well showcasing the many talents of pupils who contributed artwork to the Future House Art Exhbition. The Taiko Drumming and Art workshops were well-attended. Due to the generosity of those who attended, the Service
also raised over £900 for various charitable causes.
Mega Music Day
This took place on 25 May 2011 at Bradford City Football Stadium, hosted by popular childrens presenter Barney Harwood and was attended by the newly-elected Lord Mayor of Bradford. Over 7000 Bradford pupils took part in this spectacular
day, singing medleys and playing instruments, followed by performances by the prestigious Soutbank Sinfonia.
